Arrive and Thrive

Greetings family and friends!
We have been in Zimbabwe one week now and are doing quite well! Today, Sunday, November 13th, we attended our first Shona church service and enjoyed it very much! Our team all agreed that we were complete exhausted after 3 hours of focussing on language and trying to understand! It was fantastic.

The first week has been very eventful and busy, as well as, productive and encouraging. We have settled into our temporary home, unpacked our bags and unloaded the 40 foot container that we sent early this year. Most of our things arrived in good order even though Zimbabwean customs looked through just about every box and bag in the continer. A few things seem like they might be missing, but we are still checking to make sure!

Heidi and I awoke this morning to the sound of drums being played in the distance. Here in Doma, this is a "ceremony" that takes place one year after someone dies. The locals (who are still animists) believe that they must remember the first anniversary of someone's death, or they will end up getting curses on themselves and their children. So, our hearts were burdned for them, as soon as we arose, because of the freedom, hope and joy we have in Jesus! Can you imagine being afraid for you life if you forgot to remember the anniversary of a relatives death? Unfathomable to us! To us, it is an echo and reiteration of why we are here...to share Jesus with any and all who want Him!

Thank you so much for your prayers and support! We are doing well, enjoying life here and praying for rain, cause that will ease the heat! The planting season is quickly coming upon us, so the next few weeks will probably be full of agricultural activities and immigration! We cannot upload pictures at the moment, but as soon as we can, they will be on Facebook for any of you who wish to see them! Thank you for following our blog! We will write more soon!

Much love in Christ,
Ian, Heidi and Mikayah
